Assumptions
- One petabyte is 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes, billed as 1,000,000 GB; the rate is per GB-month, multiplied by twelve.
- The reduction fraction is the featured campaign's 38.1% against the strongest comparator, not against raw input. Data stored uncompressed today would compare differently: 98.7% against raw on the same capture.
- All retained bytes are assumed eligible. Already-compressed, encrypted, or low-redundancy inputs may show little gain.
- Figures are rounded to the nearest hundred dollars.
From ratio to bill
Multiply the size advantage by eligible retained bytes and the storage rate you actually pay. Then subtract compute for creation and verification, temporary space during creation, migration effort, licensing, and the cost of restoration when you need the data back.
