Standalone engine

Platform

x86-64 Linux with glibc, unprivileged. Needs glibc, liblzma.so.5, and libzstd.so.1.

Interfaces

Two command-line executables with JSON results, a progress stream, and clean cancellation.

Modes

Compact, fast, and ultrafast, chosen per archive (smallest, fast, and ultrafast in ZJX Basic). Ultrafast runs four workers in the qualified speed configuration and supports up to eight.

Engine release details

ZJX 1.30.0 is the current engine release. Against 1.29.7 it writes smaller archives in every compact and fast measurement, packs 1.5x to 4.1x faster in those objectives, and restores fast and ultrafast archives faster on all five public corpora, with the same archive format as the 1.29 line. Tag v1.30.0, released 2026-10-26, ReleaseSafe build for baseline x86-64. The package is reproducible byte for byte, and it installed rootless and round-tripped archives on clean Ubuntu 24.04 and Arch systems.

License

The engine is licensed under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. Commercial evaluation, deployment, embedding, resale, hosted use, managed archival services, and internal business use need a written commercial license from Greyforge Labs. That license sets the service level, compatibility window, decoder retention, and support duration. Basic uses the separate ZJX application license.

1. Sample. A representative slice of what you retain, sanitized if needed, plus your current compressor and settings.
2. Run. Compact, fast, and ultrafast against your method and the same 14-configuration comparator set, in your environment or on a controlled Greyforge host.
3. Report. Archive bytes, creation and verification time, restore evidence, and resource cost, in the form of the published campaigns.

Evaluations are scoped, paid engagements, with every term agreed in writing first.
